The "1–300 routes" column adds up what our crafting routes ask for: a good hint of what sells well at the auction house during launch.

Skinning gathers leather, hides, and scales from eligible beast corpses. Unlike Mining or Herbalism, it can fit naturally into a leveling route: after a beast has been looted, check whether it can be skinned before moving on. Leatherworking is the direct crafting partner, while another gathering profession can provide a separate way to earn materials.
Skinning in Forever
The current community guide says the corpse must be fully looted before you can skin it, and that eligible corpses left by other players may also be skinned. A Skinning Knife is needed, but the guide says it does not need to be equipped. Check your current skill against the creature’s level before making a detour.
At skill 20, a Camp Chair provides a campsite benefit that Wowhead lists as 2% critical strike. Higher features include a Field Guide and Trapper’s Workbench. Their additional effects and recipe sources can change, so verify them in the current database.
A low-friction choice
Skinning works well if your character regularly kills beasts and you want to gather without searching for fixed nodes. If your route has few eligible creatures, the materials may arrive more slowly than with another gatherer. Pair it with Leatherworking when you want to turn hides into gear, or choose a separate profession for more variety.
