Before deciding which class to play in WoW Forever, agree on the experience you want with your friends. Normal, PvP and Roleplay set different expectations, and choosing different rulesets can keep your characters from running a dungeon together.

Normal, PvP or Roleplay: which should you choose?

The Server Updates / Gameplay Style slide introduces three familiar approaches and labels Hardcore as arriving later. Use it as an overview of playstyles rather than a timetable.

Ruleset Main distinction in the slide A useful question before choosing
Normal Adventuring and monsters, with PvP at your discretion Do I want to choose when to fight other players?
PvP Greater exposure to opposing players Will interruptions to my quest route be part of the fun?
Roleplay Character immersion, naming and behavior expectations Does my group want to participate in a roleplaying community?
Hardcore Permanent character death; arriving later Am I comfortable making a character around that consequence?

These are different experiences rather than difficulty rankings. Our practical recommendation is to settle the group’s expectations first. A solo player who likes spontaneous battles may choose differently from friends who want a predictable evening of quests.

Choose with friends before building a character

Blizzard’s ruleset explanation says dungeon and raid groups require the same ruleset. Horde and Alliance also remain separate for grouping. Battlegrounds have different cross-ruleset provisions; they do not remove the dungeon restriction.

Before launch, send your group a short checklist: ruleset, faction, preferred language and intended roles. Saying only “I’m playing Warrior” leaves several decisions unresolved. Our class guides and dungeon chart help with the next part of that plan.

Hardcore is coming later, without a date in this image

The slide describes permanent death and the ability for a dead character to transfer to another ruleset. Blizzard’s panel recap also places Hardcore after launch. This article does not announce a Hardcore release date.

If you intend to start in Hardcore, check the current official announcement before arranging a group or assuming it is available. Do not read “arriving later” as “tomorrow” or as a scheduled event.

Your next decision: class, talents and a first dungeon

Once the group agrees on a ruleset and faction, compare a class’s responsibilities rather than choosing from popularity alone. Try Druid for a form-based route, Priest for Shadow questing with healing preparation, Rogue for Combat planning, Shaman for Enhancement and totems, or Warlock for Affliction and pet control.

Each guide includes an editorial level-30 proposal that opens in our talent calculator. These routes provide a starting point to discuss with your group; they are not measured performance rankings.
